RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (Reuters) – Benazir Bhutto, ancien Premier ministre pakistanais, a été tuée dans un attentat après une réunion électorale jeudi à Rawalpindi, a annoncé son parti.
"Elle est morte en martyre", a déclaré Rehman Malik, un responsable de sa formation, le Parti du peuple pakistanais (PPP).<\/p>\n

Bhutto, 54 ans, est décédée dans un hôpital de Rawalpindi. Selon la chaîne de télévision Ary-One, elle a reçu une balle en pleine tête.<\/p>\n

Selon la police, le kamikaze a tiré plusieurs coups de feu en direction de Bhutto au moment où celle-ci quittait une réunion électorale organisée dans un parc public. L’homme s’est ensuite fait exploser.<\/p>\n

"L’homme a d’abord tiré sur le véhicule de Bhutto. Elle a baissé la tête et il s’est alors fait exploser", a déclaré Mohammad Shahid, un policier.<\/p>\n

L’époux de Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, qui est à Doubaï, avait auparavant annoncé avoir été informé que sa femme se trouvait dans un état grave.<\/p>\n

La police a fait état de seize victimes dans cet attentat.<\/p>\n

Un correspondant de Reuters présent sur les lieux a entendu deux coups de feu, puis l’explosion.<\/p>\n

Des responsables du PPP avaient dans un premier temps annoncé que l’ancien Premier ministre n’avait pas été blessé.<\/p>\n

Un correspondant de Reuters a vu huit corps gisant sur la route ainsi que la tête mutilée d’une personne.<\/p>\n

A son retour au Pakistan après huit années d’exil, Bhutto, 54 ans, avait déjà été la cible le 18 octobre d’un attentat qui avait fait 139 morts dans la foule qui s’était massée à Karachi pour l’accueillir.<\/p>\n
