Several meetings had been held in January 2008 by the Social Democratic Front to launch “Operation Kenya” with the aim of destabilizing the city of Douala. The Governor having learnt of the plan issued an order banning all street demonstrations in the Littoral Province till further notice in order to nip the plan in the bud. Late in January 2008, a National Executive Committee meeting was held in Chairman Fru Ndi’s residence in Bamenda to fine tune strategies for nationwide street demonstrations.

It was planned that members of parliament and leaders of the civil society would participate in the demonstrations. At the same time, SDF youths from all over the country were trained in a seminar in Bamenda on how to effect political change from the streets.

A notorious criminal who had jumped cell in New Bell prison, Douala was spotted in Bamenda in Chairman Fru Ndi’s car. The criminal was later on arrested and taken back to prison in Douala.

On the allegation that some demonstrators were transported from town to town to cause destruction:

Before the strike, information was gathered that truck loads of ambulant youths were to be ferried from Douala, Bafoussam and Bamenda to Yaounde to participate in the demonstrations. On February 27 three truck loads of youths from Douala were intercepted by the forces of law and order at Mbankomo at the entrance to Yaounde. On February 25 another vehicle was intercepted by security forces at Makenene from Bamenda on their way to Yaounde. Most of the youths had no identification papers on them.

On the kidnapping of two foreigners:

Two Italians were kidnapped in Douala and carried to Bamenda. The kidnappers demanded a ransom. Negotiations were carried out and no ransom was paid. They were later released without harm. The children of some important businessmen were also targeted. In fact all acts of terrorism.

On the suspension of the Mayor of Njombe-Penja Council:

The mayor was suspended for recklessness in the management of the council. He refused to respect procedure in the management of council finances. He also led a band of youths to attack a gendarmerie security post in town.

Marion Obam – Le secret avait été bien gardé. C’est la seule performance parmi les treize projets présentés pour la première édition du Salon urbain de Douala (Sud), qui s’est déroulée du 9 au 16 décembre 2007 dans la capitale économique, dont le mystère était resté entier. La performance s’est déroulée samedi 15 décembre 2006 à Bonendalé, village situé après Bonabéri. Dans la cour de La maison des artistes, le collectif Auto da Fé constitué de Blaise Bang, Goddy Leye, Salifou Lindou, Dominique Malaquais, Hervé Yamguem, Hervé Youmbi et Jules Wokam, a construit une énorme bulle de fer et de bois dont l’assemblage géométrique donnait un agencement recherché de triangles. C’est le Ring. Le décor est planté. La magie attend la tombée de la nuit pour commencer à livrer ses secrets.

Un pan de voile se lève quand Aretha Louise Mbango décline, sous la forme d’un conte, la genèse du projet en français et en anglais : " Il était une fois un musée, sis à Yaoundé. Un musée qui se voulait national…Souvenez vous de la grande première. C’était l’œuvre de Joël Mpah Dooh, plasticien de Bonendalé, qu’elle allait mettre en scène. Tout était prêt. On attendait le président. Il ne vint pas. Un président c’est occupé…Quelques années plus tard le cercle Kapsiki fut invité à montrer ses œuvres à l’ancien palais présidentiel. Vint un ministre. Puis dans l’indifférence la plus totale les œuvres restèrent là…Mites et moisis on les oublia les années durant ". Les Kapsiki en ont eu assez. Ils ont repris leurs tableaux rongés, dont certains servaient de nids aux familles entières de cafards et termites.

Avec Ring, ils ont décidé de combattre l’asphyxie. Cinq jeunes garçons et filles tenants les tableaux comme pour l’annonce du prochain Round, portaient les œuvres de Hervé Youmbi, Hervé Yamguem, Blaise Bang, Salifou Lindou et Jules Wokam. Dans la nuit noire, ils se sont éloignés comme dans le conte de la flûte enchantée, le public les a suivis comme des petits rats jusqu’à la plage de Bonendalé. D’énormes torches éclairaient l’entrée. Au milieu de la cour un cercle, se dressait un bûcher. Un autre Ring. Les hommes de la chorale de Bonendalé avaient pris leur place dans le décor. " Non, ils ne vont pas faire ça ! ". " Ce n’est pas possible, il faut plutôt brûler les effigies ". S’écriaient quelques spectateurs quand dans un silence de morgue les jeunes déposaient les toiles sur le bûcher.
La jeune femme tenant la bouteille d’essence n’écoutait personne. Elle en versait sur ces tableaux qui avaient déjà été détruits par l’Etat Camerounais, abandonnés avec des termites dans les caisses non répertoriées du Musée national.
